The dual-chamber design separates working fluid into compression and rebound circuits, letting each valve stack optimize for its single task rather than compromise between opposing forces. During compression events—potholes, speed bumps, driveway ramps—fluid flows through tapered orifices that close progressively as piston velocity increases, keeping the wheel planted without transmitting harsh impacts to the chassis.


Installation and compatibility notes
Every Everestway strut ships with the spring pre-compressed and the mount hardware torqued to specification, eliminating the need for a spring compressor during installation. The bearing plate rotates independently of the strut body, so steering inputs don’t fight suspension articulation—a common failure mode when rubber top mounts harden with age. For vehicles with electronically adjustable damping, we offer passive replacement assemblies that restore predictable handling without requiring control module recalibration.
Mounting hardware and fastener torque
The upper mount uses a captured nut design that prevents spin-out when torquing the center shaft. Lower mounting bolts thread into integrated steel sleeves rather than sheet-metal captive nuts, distributing clamp load across a wider area to prevent elongation of the knuckle bolt holes. We recommend applying thread locker to the upper shaft nut and torquing to 55 ft-lbs, then verifying alignment settings after installation to confirm camber and caster remain within factory tolerance.

Material specifications and corrosion resistance
The outer housing starts as cold-rolled steel tube, then receives a zinc-iron alloy coating through electrophoretic deposition—a process that drives galvanizing compound into every weld seam and bolt hole where traditional hot-dip methods leave bare spots. Even though the strut mounts in the same location as the original, slight variations in spring seating or mount orientation can shift camber and caster enough to cause uneven tire wear. Most alignment shops charge between sixty and one hundred twenty dollars for a full adjustment, which is worth the investment to protect your new tire tread.
Technically yes, but we don’t recommend it unless your current springs show no signs of sagging or corrosion. The labor to disassemble our pre-loaded units and swap springs adds several hours to the job, and you’ll need a quality spring compressor to do it safely. If your springs have more than eighty thousand miles on them, they’ve likely lost some of their initial rate and won’t provide the balanced damping our struts are tuned for.
The most common signs are excessive body roll during turns, nose dive under braking, or a bouncy ride over rolling pavement. If you push down on a corner of the vehicle and it bounces more than once before settling, the damping has degraded. Visible fluid leaks on the strut body or uneven tire wear—especially feathering on the inside edge—also indicate it’s time for replacement.
Our standard Everestway struts are passive assemblies without electronic adjustment, so they replace electronically controlled struts with fixed-rate damping. You’ll lose the adaptive feature, but most drivers don’t notice a difference in everyday use. The suspension will feel slightly firmer than the comfort mode on the original system but softer than the sport mode. You’ll need a floor jack, jack stands, a torque wrench, and basic hand tools including metric sockets and wrenches. Because the springs come pre-compressed, you won’t need a spring compressor—the most dangerous part of traditional strut replacement. Plan for about two to three hours of work if you’re doing all four corners, and make sure to mark or photograph any alignment shims before removing the old struts so you can reinstall them in the same position.
Yes, every set includes an eighty-thousand-mile limited warranty covering damping performance and structural integrity. If a strut develops a leak, loses damping control, or suffers housing damage within that window, we’ll replace it at no charge. The warranty doesn’t cover damage from accidents, improper installation, or normal wear on items like the upper mount bearing, but those components are available separately if service becomes necessary.
You can replace just the front or rear pair if the other axle is still performing well, but we generally recommend doing all four for balanced handling. Mixing new and worn struts creates uneven damping front-to-rear, which can make the car feel twitchy during lane changes or cause the rear end to feel loose over bumps. If budget is a concern, prioritize the axle that shows the most wear and plan to complete the other end within six months.
